Vantage.
A portfolio manager for macOS that holds my real numbers and never talks to a brokerage.
I wanted to understand my own investing, and the apps I tried either hid the maths or wanted my bank login. Vantage does neither. I enter transactions myself, and it tells me what actually happened.
Where prices come from. Yahoo's public feed for quotes and history, with Finnhub and Alpha Vantage as optional free keys for wider coverage. Exchange rates come from the Bank of Canada, so CAD and European holdings convert against an official source instead of a guess.
What it refuses to do. It will not invent a price when a provider has nothing. Manual values stay authoritative, stale data gets refreshed on a timer, and requests are throttled so the free tiers hold up.
Privacy. Portfolio data, cached prices and backups live in the app's own local container. API keys sit in an owner-only file. Nothing is uploaded.
I write these up as I go.
The interesting parts end up on the blog, and the email goes out when something real ships.
